  10.     For  some years now, "lamers" and other idiots have had the chance
  11. to  play  with  other computer artists work - adding viruses, changing
  12. code,  adding  banners to the executable, releasing fake 'upgrades' to
  13. get  their name out, etc.  This has been possible, as the end-user has
  14. no  way  to check that the files still are the same as when the author
  15. released it, and that no hidden 'features' have been added.

  19.     With  PGP  and  MD5SUM, authors distributing their works have been
  20. given  tools  to  make  sure no one have 'fun' with their work, as the
  21. end-user has the possibility to check that the file's origin really is
  22. correct.   Any  modifications to the files in the archive will thus be
  23. detected,  as  a file with 'finger prints' is included, which only can
  24. be created by the author.

  26.     However,  making  such a file with message digests, signing it and
  27. finally  archiving  all  the files are usually a quite big, boring and
  28. time-consuming task.  Not anymore.

  32.     SignArch,  now  with  fully  featured  Graphical  User  Interface!
  33. Point'n'click,  use  ReqTools  requesters  to  select  the files to be
  34. archived  and  ZIP!   (or rather:  LHA!  :), everything is SIGNED with
  35. pgp, ARCHIVED with lha and READY to distribute - it's even EASIER than
  36. using LhA itself!

  38.     Of  course,  you  may  save  the settings and files to a parameter
  39. file,  which  may  be  processed with an external script, so you don't
  40. have to repoint and reclick each time!

  42.     If  you're  doing  internal  distribution,  optional encryption of
  43. final archive is supported, also for multiple receivers.
  44.  
  45.     Although  a  Graphical User Interface is included, even CLI lovers
  46. will  enjoy  the  package,  as a LhA 'substitute' will take parameters
  47. almost  as  LhA  (even wildcards when signing), and automagically both
  48. include  signatures  and archive everything.  A special script is also
  49. included  for adding signatures to existing archives.  Thus, lovers of
  50. both worlds should be satisfied.

  69. I can really recommend Jens' SignArc utility. I
  70. have tested the beta version for bugs and enforcer
  71. hits and I couldn't find any in the time I used
  72. it. I also didn't notice any flaws in the way he
  73. uses PGP.

  75. SignArc, in combination with PGP, is really useful
  76. for securing your software against hackers
  77. modifying the distribution. And not only that, it
  78. makes the compilation of release archives in
  79. general a lot easier than before.

  81. I will use it myself to assemble the distributions
  82. of my own software, including PGP.
